Melinda Dewdrops.jpgWe understand that choosing the right mixture of care and education to enable the best transition to school is extremely important. Children usually join Dewdrops at around 3 years old and from the first time you visit we will work with you to ensure that you and your child are comfortable in our surroundings and you are given as much information as possible to help you make an informed decision. We want you to feel proud of your childcare choice.

At Stationhouse we have a separate Rising 5’s centre located in a beautiful period property adjacent to the existing Stationhouse Nursery, this calm homely space has three ground floor play rooms and a lovely rear garden.  With over 30 years of childcare experience between the Bluebells’ team, and an evident passion for child development, children will thrive in this creative and empowering environment.

Our preschool rooms have been purposefully designed to provide a stimulating environment with a staff ratio of one highly trained nursery practitioner to every eight children. The team in Dewdrops, Managed by our Early Years Professional, will work with small groups and on a 1:1 basis, helping children make progress towards their early learning goals.

If your child is moving from Sunbeams, we arrange short visits for them about three Just three more.JPGweeks before they are due to move. Sunbeams and Dewdrops work closely together and often join for play, parties and special events, so they will be familiar with the team and environment prior to joining. However the visits give them some dedicated time which they will spend with their new key worker exploring all the new and exciting resources.

Both preschool rooms are located on the ground floor and consist of a large indoor area with direct access to both the front and rear nursery gardens. The messy area is always set up with art, crafts, and open ended resources. We also have a home corner, book corner, construction area and a variety of activities that involve problem solving, turn-taking, exploration and discovery. A selection of writing materials is always available so that children can practice ‘mark making’ and emergent writing. The children have access at all times to baskets of toys and equipment on the shelves that are height appropriate to encourage them to make independent choices. Children will also have regular access to a computer and other age appropriate technological equipment.

Meadow 2.jpgIn our gardens, we have plenty of space for the children to explore and be active, our willow tee-pees, outdoor classroom and play house provide perfect shady areas for play, story and picnics or just somewhere nice to relax!!

Physical activity and fresh air are extremely important for all of us, but we are extremely passionate about engendering a love of exercise and fresh air from the earliest age. To support us in this quest every week children take part in a variety of games and exercises especially selected by our team, we also go out and about in Portishead and have weekly Forest/Beach school sessions led by a fully qualified Forest School Leader. Children also have the opportunity to have weekly Tennis lessons with our coach Giles Britton, and we also run weekly French/Spanish lessons, a small fee applies for these activities.

Group times are an integral part of the daily routine, encouraging and enabling children to, share their thoughts and ideas, evaluate the activities they have taken part in or talk about themselves and their families. Making music, singing songs, early phonics, circle games and story time all form part of the nursery day, as does ‘tidy up time’.

The children in Bluebells will leave us for school. To support this transition, wherever possible your child’s key worker will visit the local school and in return we encourage reception teachers to visit the nursery and see the children at play. We will hold a School Leavers Workshop in May facilitated by our team and a local reception teacher to help you to know how to best prepare them and the myths surrounding school readiness.  Our ‘Leavers Party’ held every summer enables children to celebrate their success and marks their transition Dewdrops snack.jpgto the next important stage of their development.

All our meals are freshly prepared on site using locally sourced produce where possible. We cater for all dietary preferences and requirements and will discuss this in depth with you on registration.

For your piece of mind all of our core staff are fully qualified and have a Paediatric First Aid certificate and we are one of the first nurseries in the UK to gain a Millie’s Mark.
